The Joiners Arms

The Joiners Arms - the only luxury 5 star inn in Northumberland; a haven for lovers of fresh, locally sourced food served up with a contemporary flourish and drinkers of all tastes, from crazy cocktails to comforting real ales. Plus, we're big into families, so kids get to eat, rest and play with everyone else.

The Joiners Arms Restaurant is lively, friendly and a little bit quirky, you will find a funky mix of raw panelling and old stone walls, with low-hanging lamps above the bar and a coal fire smouldering away. There are stripped floors, tables in bay windows, local ales, then cakes on the counter you can't resist. The restaurant comes in chic cabin style with raw wood walls and green leather banquettes, the perfect place to hang out when you're not engaged in spectacular coastal adventures or hiding out in your luxe Northumberland boutique bedroom. As for the food, come home to tasty gastro fare, perhaps smoked haddock chowder, a delicious Northumbrian steak, sticky toffee pudding with ginger ice-cream.

"The Joiners Arms is an inn and restaurant of which the county is justifiably proud. The quality of accommodation provided is amongst the best in Northumberland with wonderful, individually designed bedrooms that visitors won’t want to leave, despite the Joiner’s spectacular location on the beautiful Northumberland Coast set in lovely rolling farmland. Perfectly located for exploring the best of Northumberland’s attractions including Alnwick Castle, the Alnwick Garden and Bamburgh Castle, the Joiners is also developing a reputation for good, locally sourced food with a menu that features the best Northumberland has to offer from fresh seafood plucked from the nearby North Sea, to Northumbrian beef, lamb, cheese and game. Northumberland Tourism is delighted to recommend the Joiners to residents and visitors to Northumberland alike."

Jude Leitch, Tourism Development Manager, Northumberland Tourism.

Local Area

We are located half a mile back from the sea, where a string of beaches stretch north from Embleton to Bamburgh in one of the UK’s most beautiful places. In the heart of a National Trust-designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (ONB) which fuses the best of both worlds – spectacular countryside and a breathtaking coastal location just an hour from the metropolitan hearts of Newcastle to the south and Edinburgh to the north.

We’re only a couple of miles from the spectacular Farne Islands, famed for its bird life and Atlantic grey seals (boat trips from nearby Seahouses are wild and memorable!); Alnwick Castle and Gardens, home of the first two Harry Potter films; Holy Island, a little gem easily reached across a causeway (just watch the tide…), and some of the best surfing and water sports, golf, field spots, walking and country pursuits you could wish for.
